Is HCQ really a “Gamechanger” ?

Hydroxychloroquine , also known as ‘HCQ’ is in the top trending list around the world for last ten days since US President ‘Donald Trump’ made an appeal to the Indian government to provide sufficient stocks to US for fighting COVID-19 . He made a statement about the efficiency of drug in fighting Covid-19 but is the fact also stating the same.

HCQ is a drug encountered when a person is having malaria , a mosquito-borne disease , and its use there is also limited due to adverse health effects including nausea , vomiting , loss in eyesight , changing heart beat patterns and many more. Still India , being the largest producer of HCQ with over 70% market share is getting consignments from over 30 countries for the supply of drug which India made restricted earlier in the month of march to prevent Black Marketing and avoiding its usage without the prescription of a certified doctor .

But due to  increased demand of drug in international market and helping the allied nations in fighting the deadly virus , India made a change in the restriction and is going to supply the drug to nations where is Covid-19 is portraying its worst scenario .

But the question that whether the drug is effective or not in fighting Covid-19 is still present due to lack of research report conducted in different countries , the data is insufficient to predict the effect of HCQ in preventing and diagnosing Covid-19 . Many researchers are claiming that HCQ in addition with some other drugs including chloroquine is effective in fighting Covid-19 by Improving immune system . Some others are claiming that the drug is having no effect on patients suffering from Covid-19 . Also it should not be taken due to its adverse health concerns which may lead a person to death .

So , till there is no clinical trail of drug on a large scale with sufficiently positive results , the drug should only be give to front row Covid-19 warriors including doctors , police officers and sanitation workers who oftenly come in contact with infected patients so as to reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19 .
